The precipitation data available at the CA-Man, NOBS site in northern Manitoba used a tipping bucket rain gauge. These numbers were used for total annual precipitation in LaThuile analyses. Hence there has been an underestimation because snowfall is missed. To correct this, we have the precipitation data from Thompson airport, located about 50 km from the NOBS site. Although summer time rainfall may be better characterized by the local rain gauge for some studies. posted on behalf of Brian Amiro. 7/23/2009
Dear users, we are currently checking the units and equations used to calculate the potential evapotranspiration. If you are using this variable please wait further communications about the correctness of the calculation. Posted on behalf of Dario Papale. 6/24/2009
Now for any paper that has specified the towers in their analysis, you can get a map of the towers in use by the paper (specified by the writers of the paper). The map can be found at http://www.fluxdata.org/DataInfo/Dataset%20Doc%20Lib/TowersSelectedByPaper.aspx. Once you get to the map, select the paper using the selector at the top and it will show you any towers that have been selected by that paper. The resulting map is interactive. If you float over a dot, you will get information about the tower. You can also zoom in and out, navigate around, and switch to a map (road) view. 5/1/2009
The site ancillary data file that is available for download in MATLAB format under the "Data Download" tab was not being updated at the same frequency as the ancillary data reports on the fluxdata site. We have now corrected that oversight and the site ancillary data file in MATLAB format available for download is up-to-date. Please download a new file to see the latest data. (keep in mind, this file contains only a subset of the ancillary data). The rest of the ancillary data can be downloaded via the data browsing page. 3/14/2009
As a result of a cooperative effort with Andrew Richardson, ancillary data collected to support Andrew's synthesis proposal has been collected through fluxdata.org. This major effort has resulted in a significant increase in the amounts of ancillary information available to all synthesis efforts at fluxdata.org. A huge thank you goes out to Andrew for his efforts! We just finished ingesting the ancillary data collected and the newly updated ancillary information has been posted to the fluxdata.org site. 2/27/2009
We have revised the BADM template and instructions based on feedback from the tower PIs that have filled out the templates. Please let us know if you notice anything that is still unclear or needs changing. The new template and instructions are linked off the "Dataset Information" page. The template name has also been updated to reflect that the template is now being used across fluxnet. 1/30/2009New ancillary variables have been added to allow tower teams to communicate with the synthesis efforts. The USTAR_PI allows the tower team to specify the u* they normally use in processing flux data along with a reference that explains how this value was derived. The DATA_COMMENT_PI and DATA_COMMENT_CURATOR allow the tower team or the site curator respectively to enter a comment about the data available for the site. These three variables all have a variable type of General. 1/18/2009
Today we rolled out a new redesigned set of reports based on feedback from many of you. The new reports have three major changes.
1. Variables will be ordered within a report alphabetically by site ID and then variable with all measurements of the same variable at the same level (no subsections)
2. There are now clear indications of whether the variable was submitted recently or has been received from older flux databases and workshops.
3. A release identifier of LATEST has been appended to the file name. This means it is the latest data we have. 11/13/2008
Thanks to a great deal of work by site investigators, we have received significant amounts of new ancillary data. We are in the process of surfacing this data over the next week. We have now merged the ancillary data we had prior to the BADM template with the BADM data when it is available. The first part of the web site to get the ancillary data is the AmeriFlux sub-page. The Data Browsing tab lnks will be updated next. 3/28/2008Several new ancillary data elements have been added to the database. New values for these elements can be submitted using the Ancillary Data Update page.
- WATER_TABLE_DEPTH - water table depth
- SNOW_DEPTH_MAX - maximum snow depth
- URL – tower web site URL
- INSTRUMENT_GAS – CO2 measurement instrument (Eg LI-6262)
- INSTRUMENT_GAS_PATH – open/closed
- INSTRUMENT_ANEMOMETER – wind speed instrument (eg Gill R3)
- CITATION: BibTex or RIS citation to be used for the site
- URL_PHENCAM – tower phenology web cam
- SITE_DESC_FETCH – there are now three different site descriptions you can use. All are general text descriptions.
- SITE_DESC – general description including biome and species. Note that the IGBP variable should be used for the actual IGBP class and the SPECIES variable used for the dominant species.
- SITE_DESC_HISTORY – general description of the site history. Note that the DIST variable should be used to describe specific disturbances such as fires, harvests, or pesticide applications.
- SITE_DESC_FETCH - general description of the site including prevailing winds.
